The 5th Japan-Arab Economic Forum

On July 10-11, 2024, the 5th Japan-Arab Economic Forum was co-hosted by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), and the League of Arab States in Tokyo. Notable attendees included Japan’s Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko, State Minister TSUJI Kiyoto, Economy Minister SAITO Ken, and State Minister KOZUKI Ryosuke, along with H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, and various economic ministers from Arab countries.
Key highlights of the forum:
1. Public-Private Business and Economic Conference (July 10)
o Opening remarks were given by several ministers and officials, including Secretary General Aboul Gheit, who emphasized enhancing the partnership between Japan and Arab states.
o Discussions covered mutual trade enhancement, climate change response, emerging technologies, and supply chain resilience.
2. Ministerial Conference (July 11)
o Opening remarks focused on creating synergy between Japan and Arab countries and progressing towards shared prosperity.
o Topics included energy security, digital infrastructure, AI and metaverse technologies, clean energy for Net-zero goals, SDG actions, and human resource development.
A joint press release outlining future economic cooperation was issued, and it was announced that the 6th Japan-Arab Economic Forum will be held in an Arab country in 2026.
